Week 1: Lego Club ~ STEAM Camp

Mr. Rauenzahn's

Lego Club ~ STEAM Camp

has officially started this summer!

This summer camp focuses on enhancing the students' Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math skills... all while building with Legos, utilizing iPads/LapTops and following the design process.

Student Choice

Each day students are able to schedule the activities they would like to participate in. They pick who they want to work with, and in what order they would like to complete the stations. The students put their picture in the box they want to participate in. They can pick from the daily STEAM lesson, Lego building, LapTops/iPads, time at the Wii, and more!

Incentives - Lego Money $ $ $ $

One of the favorite parts of Lego camp is earning Lego Money throughout the day! Students earn Lego Money by completing Lego Challenges (building certain items), following directions, sharing, and working together. They can then trade the money in for prizes, Wii time, comfy couch sitting, and more!

Day 1: Noodle/Marble Roller Coasters

The first STEAM lesson was to build a roller coaster using pool noodles. Students then tested their designs out by letting a marble roll down their coasters. We thought about how gravity, energy & friction affected our designs.

Day 2: Ozobot Robot Programing

Students used the mini Ozobot robots to practice their programing and coding skills. Using the Ozobot app on the iPads, students drew a track (code) for the robot to follow. Depending on the design, the robots may change color, spin around, or speed up!

Day 3: Balloon Powered Lego Car

For the final day of the first week of camp, students built various Lego Cars. We then raced them by using balloon power! Students discovered that certain designs worked better with the balloons, and enjoyed upgrading their creations to get them to go faster.
